Mary Cassatt was an American painter and printmaker who was born on May 22, 1844 in Allegheny City Pennsylvania (now a part of Pittsburgh), and died on June 14, 1962, near Paris. Cassatt spent a lot of her life in France, where she studied with highly regarded art teachers and worked at the Louvre as a copyist (someone who was paid to make replicas of famous paintings). Cassatt was an impressionist and the majority of her artwork relates to the social and private life of women, especially focusing on the relationship between mothers and their children.
