Introducing Berthe Morisot by P.J. Blessington

Berthe Morisot was a world-renowned French artist known mainly for her paintings. She was born January 14, 1841, in Bourges, France, and died March 2, 1985, in Paris, France.

"The Cradle" by Berthe Morisot was created in 1872 when impressionism was popular using oil paint as the medium. It is currently held in the Musée d'Orsay art museum in Paris, France.
"Eugène Manet and his Daughter Sitting in the Garden" was another impressionist piece of art created using oil paint as the medium in 1883. This painting portrayed Berthe's husband and Julie, her only daughter, spending time together in their private garden. The painting is currently held in the garden of their house in Bougival, France.


"View of Paris from Trocadero" was yet another impressionist artwork created using oil paint as the medium from 1871 to 1872. This painting displayed a few notable buildings from the top of the hill at Trocadero in Paris, France including the Notre Dame. Painted at her family home by Berthe Morisot, the painting is currently held in the Palais de Challot in Trocadero.

As a French painter during the late 1800s, Berthe Morisot was associated with multiple movements. These movements include the shift to impressionism, realism, and modern art. Most of the work of Berthe Morisot is impressionist art pieces and contains oil paints as the medium. As a strong and successful woman in a patriarchal society, Berthe Morisot explained, "Real painters understand with a brush in their hand."
